Overview

Recover+ is a senior design project completed in collaboration with Under Armour through the Johns Hopkins Engineering Design Center. The project focused on developing a recovery-oriented footwear concept for athletes and active individuals.

Because this project was completed under an NDA, this page only includes information that has been made public through the project poster and Johns Hopkins Design Day materials.

Problem

Athletes and active individuals need a convenient way to support foot recovery and help reduce discomfort associated with high activity levels. The project explored how footwear could integrate recovery-focused mechanical features while maintaining practical requirements for fit, comfort, durability, and usability.

Public Design Concept

The public poster presents a recovery footwear concept combining:

  • A thermoplastic polyurethane midsole with tunable stiffness
  • A polyurethane foam insole
  • A mechanical motion system designed to target the plantar fascia region
  • A prototype development process involving foam casting, part sizing, cam shaft iterations, rack-and-pinion exploration, and medium-fidelity shoe prototyping

My Role

As project manager, I helped coordinate project planning, team communication, milestone tracking, and design progression throughout the senior design process.

I also contributed heavily to the mechanical design work for the shoe, including concept development, prototype iteration, component integration, and design decisions related to the recovery mechanism and footwear system architecture.
